The Silver Knights Alzheimer’s Prevention CharityWE NEED FOR YOU TO VOLUNTEER TO JOIN OUR NEW CHARITY AND HELP SAVE PEOPLE FROM ALZHEIMER'S
Go to- http://www.hbo.com/alzheimers/ to see movies about the Alzheimer's Epidemic!
The Silver Knights Alzheimer's Prevention Charity is an all-volunteer, informal, non-profit organization of relatives of Alzheimer's patients, chess club directors, chess coaches, chess players, chess students of all ages, caregivers and anyone dedicated to preventing and saving the lives of hundreds of thousands of people from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease by teaching chess and other games to people in schools, hospitals, YMCA's, churches, libraries and other locations in your area. All of our classes and documentation are FREE. Our chess course is taught by our volunteer Active Silver Knights Chess Coaches who make the classes fun and encourage the classes to even start their own chess clubs. We provide all the lessons and training necessary.
Research shows that people who play chess are 60-75% less likely to get Alzheimer’s (CLICK HERE AND READ MORE ABOUT DR. FRIEDLAND'S RESEARCH) .
Statistics (click here) say that this year alone we can potentially save tens of thousands of our loved ones from getting this monstrous disease. Yes, a practical prevention for many people has been found for the 6th largest killer in the US- Alzheimer's disease. But we can't do it without you so please volunteer.
You can also register for our CHESS MEMORY NEWSLETTER which is specifically designed for Chess Club Directors, Chess Coaches, Chess Players and Chess Students. It give you tips, ideas and artwork to make your classes and chess clubs even more instructive and fun. If you would like to write an article just email us at

You may find it interesting that for every 100 adults who we teach chess to, should they all reach the age of 85, we would have saved the lives of 25 people from suffering the horrible death caused by Alzheimer's. Please consider VOLUNTEERING or making a small monthly donation to help save the lives of people like your parents and grandparents.
We use chess because it is the "Gold Standard of Mental Exercises." One of our mottos is that "Chess is Fun and Easy Taught the Silver Knight Way!" At our clubs the members are free to play any other mind stimulating game they wish!

Read this article from Alzheimer's Weekly By Roberta Bienenfeld who explains in great detail about our organization and Patrick Ellis.
I speak to caregivers and to the elder-care medical community and have the chance to visit many facilities. Chess is a great idea-and other board and card games. Men don't usually enjoy the arts and crafts or music time, and I do believe that some of the Alzheimer's games are condescending. They have a sense when things aren't "right." Learning a skill-even if you have to relearn it over and over is rewarding-and for those with mild dementia-it can even keep the "beast" at bay.
